Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, has awarded a number of journalists with flats, in an official opening ceremony of a large 17-floor building, constructed on his personal decree.
Around 150 people gathered on Tbilisi’s Aghmashenebeli Avenue on 19 July, in solidarity with a woman who was threatened with gang rape after criticising a far-right march in the city. Aghmashenebeli was recently host to the ethno-nationalist, male-dominated ‘March of Georgians’.

On 17 July, a woman from Chechnya applied to the local Prosecutor’s Office with a request to assist her in bringing back her young son from Iraq. The Prosecutor’s Office has begun verification of her claims.
A wedding in Ingushetia earlier this month took a nasty turn, after a friend of the groom poured whiskey over the bride, explaining that is was an ancient tradition to play a prank on a newly-wed woman. After the head of Ingushetia became personally involved in the incident, which was captured on camera, the father of the man resigned as head of his village administration.
A fire broke out in Tbilisi’s Dezertirebi Market on 17 july. Four warehouses where vendors stored products were destroyed. It is unknown what caused the fire. [Read more…]
