A fire broke out at one of the largest clothing markets in Daghestan’s capital, Makhachkala, on 31 March. No injuries have been reported but the damage from the fire is still unknown.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Daghestan told OC Media that by 11:30 the fire was still not extinguished

‘Almost all the city's fire departments are working on the spot. Today was a cleaning day on the market, so nobody was hurt’, the spokesperson said.

The fire engulfed an area of around 800–1000 square metres. Firefighters attempted to extinguish it from helicopters.

Vendors mostly sell clothes on the market, which is located along Irchy Kazak Street. It is located near a grocery market and a home appliance store.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage have not yet been established.

This is the second time in a month that a fire has broken out in this market. On the evening of 6 March, four shipping containers full of clothes caught fire.
