‘Islamic State militant’ detained in Ingushetia

On 21 March, local Ingush man Ilyas Albakov was detained in Ingushetia for his alleged involvement in an international terrorist organisation. According to the head of the Ingush Security Council, Akhmed Dzeytov, he is accused of being a member of the Islamic State in Syria. Other details of this case, including the time he spent with the Islamic State in Syria, have not been released.

Between 2014–2016, criminal cases were brought against 118 residents of Ingushetia for committing crimes as members of illegal armed groups and international terrorist organisations. They were included in federal and international wanted lists.

According to Ingush law enforcement agencies, there was not a single terrorist attack in Ingushetia in 2016. They claim that during this period, 13 members of the insurgency in Ingushetia were killed, three more voluntarily surrendered, and 35 people were detained for assisting militants.
