Security tightened in Ingushetia after St Petersburg bombing

Authorities in Ingushetia have introduced tightened security measures in the republic, after a bomb was detonated in the St Petersburg Metro on 3 April, killing 14 and injuring 49. Head of the republic, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, personally ordered that police take additional security measures.

‘It is necessary to concentrate all available resources and take all opportunities to prevent similar cases on the territory of the republic; to strengthen inspection activities at the railway stations and bus stations’, he said, during a meeting with law enforcement agencies.

Yevkurov also instructed the local anti-terrorism commission (ATC) to intensify security measures in all areas, focusing on the prevention of crime and identification of abandoned facilities and unregistered persons in the republic.

A homemade bomb exploded in a metro car between two stations in the city, according to the ATC. An Investigation has been launched for a suspected terrorist act. Kyrgyz born Russian citizen Akbarzhon Jalilov has been named as a suspect by Kyrgyz officials, the BBC reports.
