Fifteen young men were detained about two weeks ago in the Chechen city of Urus-Martan, according to North Caucasian news website Kavkaz.Realii. The men have not been officially charged, but are being held in the local police station as a ‘preventative measure’.
On 6 March, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala dismissed the lawsuit of Magomed Gadzhiyev, a member of the public council at the city’s Tanghim Mosque, against the Sovetsky District’s Department of Internal Affairs (ROVD). Gadzhiyev was trying to find out whether or not he was included on the ‘preventive supervision list’ (profuchot), which imposes restrictions on freedom of movement.
Several Daghestanis who appeared on the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) preventive supervision list have succeeded in having their names removed through the courts.
