A secret audio recording released on Friday suggests that former Georgian sports minister Levan Kipiani attempted to extort expensive cars for other ministers from Omega Group, a business group that owns local TV channel Iberia TV. The authenticity of the recording has not yet been verified, but this is the second secret audio recording released in recent weeks suggesting the government is applying pressure on Omega Group. On Tuesday, Russia’s Deputy Prosecutor General, Ivan Sydoruk, approved the indictment of Musa Musayev, the former mayor of the Daghestani capital Makhachkala. Musayev was charged with illegally giving away land worth ₽48 million ($700,000). He was originally arrested for fraud of ₽80 million ($1.2 million).

Police launched a criminal case on Monday in Makhachkala against Magomed Magomedov, the former head of the state Management for the preparation and holding events dedicated to the 2,000th anniversary of Derbent. Magomedov is accused of overstating the amount of work done during the construction of Derbent’s promenade by more than ₽44 million ($670,000).
