On 15 February, the North Caucasus District Military Court convicted an Ingush man of public calls to terrorist activity. He was sentenced to two years and two months in prison.
Chechnya and Ingushetia recorded the highest fertility rates in Russia, according to research conducted by the Civic Chamber of Russia, a government formed consultative civil society institution, and the Sober Russia social movement. The three Russian regions with the lowest fertility were identified as Leningrad, Pskov, and Magadan oblasts.

Researchers suggest that the situation will only become worse, as the growing number of divorces in the region suggests insurmountable difficulties in marriage.
Ingush schoolchildren will soon need to pass through metal detectors in order to enter schools. Every school in Ingushetia is to be equipped with a metal detector by decree of the republic’s president, Yunus-Bek Yevrkurov, his press office reported.
A group of local young people in the Malgobek District, Ingushetia, have formed a vigilante group to fight against drug addiction. Members of the new organisation, with the blessing of local religious authorities, are tracking down and recording details of alleged drug dealers. These ‘defenders of morality’ record their actions and publish them online.
Since the beginning of the civil war in Syria, approximately 200 people from Ingushetia have joined the Islamic State. Of these, about 50 have died and 10 have returned to Ingushetia, according to Ingushetia’s acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Yury Muravyev.
More than 10,000 hectares of land needs to be cleared of mines in Chechnya, Yury Stavitsky, commander of Russia’s military engineers said in an interview with press agency Interfaks. Additionally, 2,000 hectares also needs to be demined in neighboring Ingushetia. [Read more…]
