The Chair and Deputy Chair of TBC Bank Group PLC, which owns one of Georgia's largest banks, TBC, have resigned. The resignations followed a demand from the Georgian National Bank a week ago that they go, due to an ongoing investigation into possible money laundering.
The National Bank of Georgia has ordered the shareholders of TBC Bank Group PLC, which owns their namesake Georgian bank, to remove their Chair, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Deputy Chair, Badri Japaridze, from their board within two months. The National Bank also revoked the signature authority of both.
Two of Georgia’s banks, Bank of Georgia and TBC, have ‘eaten up the whole country’, according to the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
