One police officer was killed and three more injured in Chechnya on Monday in a coordinated knife, bomb, and car attack, according to official reports. Four of the five attackers, one of who was 11 years old, were killed during the attacks, and a fifth wounded.
Tbilisi City Court sentenced former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to eight years in prison in absentia on Thursday, commuted to six years due to a 2012 amnesty, for ordering the attack on businessman and opposition MP Valeri Gelashvili in 2005. Saakashvili was found guilty on two counts: exceeding his official authorities with the application of violence and arms, and organising intentional damage that afflicted grave bodily harm dangerous to one’s life, irreversibly altering one’s face. Seven people have been left dead including four attackers after militants attempted to storm a church in the Chechen capital Grozny. According to Intelligence Group Enterprise, the Islamic State’s Caucasus Province has claimed responsibility for the attack, on the Archangel Michael Orthodox Church, the only Orthodox church in Grozny. A person has been charged in Georgia with attacking a transgender woman because of her gender identity. The Prosecutor’s Office says an investigation into the case revealed that the defendant inflicted injuries on the woman by striking her several times.
Two queer men have been attacked in Kakheti, western Georgia. They allege that they were attacked ‘on the grounds of homophobia’.
Ingush Head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov is likely to be summoned to court to testify in the case surrounding an attack on journalists and human rights activists in Ingushetia on 9 March 2016. Yevkurov’s testimony was requested by the victims’ lawyers.

On the night of 16–17 March, the Federal Security Service (FSB) building in Ingushetia’s Malgobek District came under fire from a rocket propelled grenade. The corner of the building was hit, damaging the exterior. No-one was injured in the incident.
