The foreign ministers of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey have signed the ‘Action Plan for Trilateral Sectoral Co-operation for 2017–2019’ in Baku, marking another step in the trilateral format initiated five years ago. The meetings passed without mention of either Afgan Mukhtarli, a journalist, abducted from Tbilisi to Baku, and school manager Mustafa Emre Çabuk, who is currently being deported on Turkey’s request.

Georgia has temporarily halted extradition procedures against Mustafa Emre Çabuk, a manager at the Private Demirel College, while the Ministry of Refugees considers his application for asylum.
Local rights organisations have urged Georgia’s government not to extradite Mustafa Emre Çabuk, a manager at the Private Demirel College, to Turkey. Çabuk was detained in Tbilisi on 24 May accused of ‘supporting a terrorist organisation’, on Turkey’s request. Tbilisi City Court has ordered Çabuk’s provisional detention for three months.
