Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, Georgia’s Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, described the humanitarian situation in South Ossetia’s Akhalgori (Leningor) District as ‘extremely alarming’, saying that 13 people fell victim to South Ossetia’s policy of preventing residents from accessing medical treatment in Georgia-controlled territory since last September. Georgian national remanded for ‘2 months’ in South Ossetian custody

A Georgian national has been remanded in custody for two months in South Ossetia accused of helping people ‘illegally cross the border’ in exchange for money, South Ossetia’s State Security Committee (KGB) has reported. Maia Otinashvili, 37, was detained on 29 September near her home in Khurvaleti, a village in Gori Municipality under Georgian control. Her mother says Otinashvili was on her own land when ‘Russian soldiers came and took her’. She also said her daughter had been beaten.

Georgia unveils ‘unprecedented’ peace initiative for Abkhazia, South Ossetia

Georgian authorities have unveiled a wide ranging plan ‘to encourage contacts, movement, and relations’ with people in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The plan includes efforts to simplify trade, including from Abkhazia and  South Ossetia to the EU, and encourage students from Abkhazia and South Ossetia to study in Georgian institutions and abroad.
