Abkhazians decry ‘petrol monopoly’ amidst ongoing fuel shortage

Avatar

Abkhazia is facing the risk of a fuel shortage crisis after Moscow reportedly granted a state-owned oil company exclusive rights to export fuel to Abkhazia. On Tuesday, Abkhazia’s Parliament sent an appeal to Moscow, asking Russia to ‘revise’ its decree granting Rosneft the exclusive right to export petrol to Abkhazia. For years, the company promised Georgia and other Black Sea states their ‘energy independence’, and was originally founded by Bill White, a former US deputy secretary of energy, and the sons of a former US treasury secretary and the chair of US oil giant Conoco.  But since Fron

The Georgian government is to terminate their contract with American oil and gas firm Frontera Resource, which has been extracting in the country since 1997.  The decision came after a ruling by the International Arbitration Tribunal which the Georgian Government claims went in their favour. Georgian Government wins arbitration with US oil and gas firm Frontera

The International Arbitration Tribunal has upheld the vast majority of claims filed by the Georgian Government against the US oil and gas firm Frontera Resources, the government says.  Georgia had accused the company of violating the terms of their contract, signed in 1997. They claimed that Frontera refused to return to the state land they were no longer using for extraction. After Georgia filed the appeal at the International Arbitration Tribunal in January 2018, Frontera responded with a
