Abkhazia’s State Museum has closed its modern history wing after the Russian Embassy reportedly demanded the removal of a photo of Chechen rebel commander Shamil Basayev. Chechen surgeon Khasan Baiyev has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, by well-known Ossetian blogger Bella Tsarakhova. On 20 February, Chechnya’s Shatoy District Court sentenced Maksim Ponarin to life imprisonment in a penal colony.
