Two police officers from the city of Omsk in western Siberia escaped with only light injuries after after a bomb exploded near their vehicle in Chechnya on 27 July, Russian daily Komsomolskaya Pravda reports.

The incident happened near the village of Nozhay-Yurt as the men, visiting on business,  drove to a spring to replenish their water supplies, the paper writes. As they left their car, two explosions occurred. The two officers received only minor injuries and received treatment on the scene.

The Siberian District of Russia’s National Guard has denied earlier reports that the men targeted were members.

Chechen law enforcement agencies have not yet commented on the matter, however a source told OC Media that investigators are on the scene determining the type of explosives used.
