
Following Russia’s warning, Armenia reiterates that annual fees to the CSTO will not be paid

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Overchuk nonetheless claimed it is Armenia’s ‘internal choice’ if it wants to join the bloc.
The freefall of the bilateral ties largely began after Russia’s lack of support in the face of Azerbaijani attacks on Armenia in 2021 and 2022.
Russia also said that Armenia’s ‘frozen’ membership in the CSTO ‘does not contribute to strengthening Armenia’s security’.
The consultations were held as Armenia’s relations with Russia have appeared to improve in recent months.
The statement came in regards to Armenia not paying its contribution fees to the CSTO.
Earlier, Sergei Kopyrkin, Russia’s Ambassador to Armenia said that no other country gave Armenia ‘any security guarantee that would be comparable’ to what Russia offers.
