Civil Contract expels another MP

Civil Contract has unanimously decided to expel MP Hakob Aslanyan, after Aslanyan announced that he was freezing cooperation with the faction for a month. At the same time, Aslanyan said that he did not consider the decision made earlier this month to expel MP Hovik Aghazaryan from the party over alleged leaks of confidential information to be ‘fair’. The ruling Civil Contract party on Wednesday cited Aslanyan’s serious disciplinary violation and behaviour, which it said was highly incompatible

In Gyumri, Armenia holds mayoral primaries for the first time

The ruling Civil Contract party has held primaries for the first time from 8-10 December in Armenia’s second largest city, Gyumri, to determine the acting mayor. The competition was held between seven candidates, each of which were supposed to be Civil Contract party members or party supporters.  During the three-day period, Civil Contract representatives approached randomly selected residents of Gyumri and asked them to cast a ballot. The ruling Civil Contract party has expelled MP Hovik Aghazaryan from the party over alleged leaks of confidential information.  The announcement on Tuesday said Aghazaryan was expelled ‘due to leaks of confidential information of state and party significance, as well as gross violations of public moral norms’. Gyumri’s mayor and ruling faction announce their resignation

The mayor of Gyumri, Armenia and 13 council members have submitted their resignations after the authorities accused the former mayor, Samvel Balasanyan, who is affiliated with their faction, of abusing his office. Mayor Vardges Samsonyan and the council members, who call themselves the Balasanyan Alliance, submitted their resignation applications on Monday, after rumours of this intention began circulating in the media last week. The alliance has not yet publicly commented on their decision.

Armenia’s ruling party fails to find new justice minister among its party members

Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party has been struggling to find a candidate for the position of justice minister since the ex-minister was forced to resign.
