Chechen Head Ramzan Kadyrov has commented on the video, which shows a man dressed in traditional Buddhist attire being hit in the face by two males, presumably from the North Caucasus. The video has spread in social networks.

The video titled ‘Daghestani peacekeepers “fighting” for justice in Myanmar on the streets of Moscow’ was uploaded in Russian social network VKontakte on 19 September.

The 15-second-long video shows two men asking a person wearing characteristic attire whether he is a Buddhist. After he says ‘yes’, they curse at him and one of the men slaps him in the face.

Shortly after the publication, many social media users from the North Caucasus reacted to the video. Most of the users in Daghestan and Chechnya commenting on the video expressed their disapproval of the actions of the two attackers.

Ramzan Kadyrov reacted to the video as well. According to Russian media platform Meduza, Kadyrov wrote in a message on his Telegram channel that ‘a true Muslim will never hurt a weak, innocent human being. This escapade is not worthy of a real man. It is simple posturing and a publicity stunt’.

Kadyrov also said that those ‘who commit crimes’ should be punished.

Earlier, Kadyrov said that he disagreed with the position of Moscow on Myanmar, adding that he preferred the position of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who called the actions against Muslims in Myanmar a ‘genocide’.
