A court in Makhachkala, the capital of the Russian Republic of Daghestan has sentenced the city’s former mayor to four years in prison on corruption charges.
On Tuesday, Russia’s Deputy Prosecutor General, Ivan Sydoruk, approved the indictment of Musa Musayev, the former mayor of the Daghestani capital Makhachkala. Musayev was charged with illegally giving away land worth ₽48 million ($700,000). He was originally arrested for fraud of ₽80 million ($1.2 million).
The Mayor of Makhachkala, Musa Musayev, has been arrested on corruption charges, and is being held in a temporary detention facility. According to the prosecution, he gave away city land to a commercial firm worth ₽80 million ($1.4 million).
Twenty-seven-year-old Badrudin Musayev, the son of the current mayor of Makhachkala, Musa Musayev, was tried on charges of using force and insulting the authorities. The case was being considered in the Sovetsky District Court of the capital of Daghestan for several months. The court found the mayor’s son innocent.
