Hajiyev to RSF: Armenia controls roads out of Stepanakert

Armenia controls the two roads connecting Stepanakert (Khankandi) to Armenia, Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev wrote on Twitter today. He was responding to a statement by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in which the organisation asked Azerbaijan to ‘do everything possible to allow the evacuation of civilians’, from Stepanakert (Khankandi). 

Civilians, including 80 journalists, RSF reports, cannot reach Armenia ‘without risking their lives under fire from Azeri forces’. 

‘Yesterday it was Armenia that declared closure of Lachin Corridor’, Hajiyev wrote in response. The Lachin corridor is the main road connecting Stepanakert to Armenia. 

Armenia: Azerbaijan has 21 Armenian POWs 

The Armenian Unified Infocenter reports that Armenia’s Investigative Committee, examining ‘preliminary data’, has determined that Azerbaijan holds 21 Armenian prisoners of war in its custody.

Russian MFA expresses ‘serious concern over members of international terrorist organisations‘ in conflict zone

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Russian authorities have received information that ‘members of international terrorist organisations are being transferred from the Middle East [...] to the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict’.

‘This cannot but cause us serious concern’, she added. ‘In the long term, such a development of the situation threatens to allow the emergence of a new terrorist enclave’. 

Reporters Without Borders: 80 journalists trapped in Stepanakert

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has stated that 80 ‘local and foreign’ journalists are ‘trapped’ in the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh and ‘cannot reach Armenia without risking their lives under fire from Azeri forces’. 

RSF calls on the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and Azerbaijan to ‘do everything possible to allow the evacuation of civilians.’ 

The road that connects Stepanakert (Khankandi) to Armenia has been closed to civilian movement since yesterday due to the nearby presence of Azerbaijani troops. 

Azerbaijan: Barda resident injured in 28 October strike has died

Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General’s Office reports that a resident of Barda who was injured during the strike on the city on 28 October has died. Azerbaijan’s official civilian death toll now stands at 92 with 404 injured.

Armenia: Lachin and Shusha under fire 

The State Emergency Service of Nagorno-Karabakh reports that the towns of Lachin (Berdzor) and Shusha (Shushi) are under fire. There is no information at the moment about possible casualties.  

Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities report shelling of civilian areas this morning

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reports that this morning, the Goranboy and Tartar regions as well as the Giyameddinli village in Aghjabadi came under shelling. 

Meanwhile, Armenian authorities report that Martuni (Khojavand) and Shusha (Shushi) were also shelled this morning.
